One of the best remedies for colic and why it actually works!
As I mentioned in my blog my son suffered from colic from zero to three months. It was a very testing and tough time and if your newborn is suffering from the symptoms of colic I sympathize with you. I will let you in on a secret now, it will STOP and you can ease the symptoms for you and your baby. Having lived through that very tough time I wish to share with you the one thing that worked for me.
One Product, One Remedy!
The problem with most products on the market today is that they aim to fix one solution to colic. Unfortunately in reality that is a little harder to do as the doctors can not even pin down the cause of colic. I tried many different remedies to get something to work. I downloaded videos from the internet, helped my wife try out different breastfeeding techniques, spoke to the doctors and midwives and read countless articles on miracle cures. I would have tried anything back in those days.
Something That Finally Worked
I finally found something that worked, most importantly of all it worked for my son, finally a remedy for colic that did not require me to do exercises with him every twenty minutes for 16 hours a day! It was something that resonated with me and made sense when I really thought about the principles of it. It did not just address the symptom of colic it addressed many different things for my son that all were contributing to his colic. Multiple Factors
You see the key point is this: There is more than one contributing factor to colic:
• Newborns are used to it being noisy, warm and squishy
• Newborns are unaware of there bodies, let alone that they have one, they still think they are there mother
• They are used to it being weightless and constant flowing movement
• They are used to the darker environments (they have never used there eyes before)
Life outside of the womb is a very different environment and can be very scary and intimidating for them. When they leave the mothers body they experience for the first time, gravity, light, silence, oxygen, different smells, their body! All of these factors can contribute to colic along with other things.
Will It Work?
I have to admit that this product may not work for every baby. When there are thousands of babies born every day across the world one system does not apply to all! But I know it got to the stage where I would have tried anything to help find a remedy for my son’s colic.
The 4th Trimester
Strange as it may sound Dr Karp has a theory that our babies should go through another trimester within the mother. It seems when they are born they are not ready to come into the world, they are still fetuse like with uneven breathing, tremors and even needing help to burp. Not until they are 3 or 4 months do babies start interacting with us by smiling and cooing. Dr Karp believes they need the stimulation of the womb for a few more months. Unfortunatelly it’s not physically possible. Parents need to re-create the womb environment on the outside. Intuitively new mothers and fathers swing and shoosh there babies, but unfortunately in our culture these days we are taught to tip toe round the newborn as they need a quiet and calming environment.
